Maximize your experience at Affiliate World Asia 2018 - The Final Headline of the Year!
Affiliate World Asia, the final headline event of the year and one of the largest affiliate conferences in the world, it’s back again! Already at its fourth edition, AWA will once again take place in Bangkok, at the Centara Grand, between 5-6 December while eCommerce Mastery Live will bring the whole event to a close on the 7th of December.
What better way to close the year than with a trip to one of the most vibrant cities from the world’s most populous continent?
So, are you ready for two days of innovative performance marketing insights? Are you prepared to meet the most successful advertisers, the biggest affiliates networks and the biggest-name speakers within the industry? If so, we’re here to guide you through Bangkok and AWA, so you will get full value of this event and maximize your experience.
Prepare for the trip - Visa, Emergency Numbers, Pocket Money, Transportation & Accomodation
First thing first, make sure you’re getting a visa before leaving because depending on the country you live in, it might require some extra documents, like an invitation letter. Mostly, touristic visas in Thailand are easy to obtain, you can even take a 30 day one from the airport but its better to be properly be informed before you arrive there. Don’t forget to pack light summer clothes since in Thailand are over 31 degrees in December and take with you a raincoat, just in case.
Once you arrived on the airport, after you leave the customs point, buy yourself a local SIM card and exchange some money at the ATM or the SuperRich exchanges. Their currency is THB (Thai Baht) and $1 is usually around ฿35.
Prices are not high in Thailand, even in the touristic areas, so expect to spend around ฿500 on food/day and around ฿300/day on transportation. We recommend taking the Uber, even if it may seem appealing to try the TUK TUK. An Uber trip from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Centara Grand- the conference location costs around ฿500 and with the TUK TUK sometimes, even if you negotiate the price before leaving, you might get scammed.
Their metro system is also cheap and fast but the disadvantage is that the routes are limited. Nevertheless, if you decide to take the metro, Siam and Chit Lom are the closest stations to the conference. You can find the directions from the airport on the Affiliate World Asia website.
As for the accommodation, if you didn’t manage to find a room at the conference official hotel, you can try AirBnb, Aloft Bangkok or book a room at the 90th floor of the Baiyoke Tower, the tallest building in the city. Wouldn’t it be just great?
Needless to say, the food in here it’s amazing so indulge yourself with the Thai cuisine and don’t forget to enjoy the delicious street dishes as well. Thailand it’s a real paradise for foodies.
Last but not least, if you encounter any problem and you need to be assisted by the Tourist police, you can reach them by calling at 1155. They will reply in English and deal with your situation. We hope it won’t be necessary to call them but you never know. Also, if you need a hospital, these are a few of Bangkok's best: Bumrungrad International Hospital, BNH Hospital, Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital and Bangkok International Hospital.
Enjoy the Land of Smiles - Its Temples & Culture, Its Markets and Its Nightlife
But let’s leave concerns aside and talk about the fun things you can do in Bangkok. In the end, Thailand is known as the Land of Smiles, so you have lots of reasons to grin.
As you probably already know, more than 95% of the country is Buddhist so the region has lots of Buddha temples and other symbols of this ancient religion. Also, the King is a very important figure in there and mostly treated as a deity, so disrespecting him will bring you a serious fine.
Although most of their temples are elaborated and have outstanding architectures, there are a few icons you need to see. Among these, there is WAT PHO- one of the largest well-known temples, WAT ARUN- a stunning, colorful construction, identified by its intricate spires, WAT SAKET with a golden tower you might even see from the room of your hotel, WAT SUHAT, one the most iconic temples in town, WAT MAHATHAT, one of the oldest temples and WAT RATCHANATDARAM, a massive multi-tiered structure that symbolizes the 37 virtues toward enlightenment.
More than this, if you want to have the most intense rejuvenating traditional Thai massage, there are plenty of opportunities especially in the area surrounding the WAT PHO temple. An hour of Thai massage costs around ฿420 and we can guarantee that these women can break your spine with flick of a fingernail if you don’t pay them, so don’t try to make a bad joke.
If you’re a big fan of Thai martial arts, you can see live a Muay Thai show at Rajadamnern or Lumpinee (two of the largest venues for fights) but consider that the ticket ranges from ฿200 to ฿2000. Don’t forget, in Thailand it’s important to always negotiate your prices, since they are usually different from the locals. Also, there are some free martial arts shows at Channel 7 Stadium, every Sunday and third Wednesday of the month, where the fights are broadcasted live so if you’re just curious, you can go see one for free.
If you have more spear time, we recommend you to visit the hectic, busy street markets that are always full of people (sometimes more than 200.000 people every day) from wandering tourists to street vendors and restaurant owners, but take into consideration that you have to go there early if you want to beat the crowd.
Chatuchak Weekend Market is the mother of all Bangkok street markets, Pak Klong Talat Flower Market is open 24 hours, Klongsan Market specializes in clothes and jewelry and Bangkok Farmers Market is one of the coolest new markets in town offering yoga instruction, education about farming, charity programs and all sorts of healthy new age stuff.
But from our point of view, the floating markets are a unique way to explore the local culture and Thailand authenticity. Although many of them are located outside the city and require a day trip, if you have enough time to spend, we highly recommend you to visit either Amphawa, either Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, or Taling Chan or Khlong Lat Mayom.
At the end of the day you can unwind visiting some of the famous restaurants and clubs in Bangkok. The city’s nightlife is world famous, and part of the fun is in wandering around and getting lost in the chaos, among all kinds of attractions.
The ultimate party hub, Khao San Road Night Market is full of wild experiences and interesting places where you can party like a local. You can go to some well-known party places such as the Club, Soi Thong Lo 10, Escobar, Lava Club or Villa/Demo. Check out the roof bars as well, because their scenery is amazing or catch up with the gay scene and with the go-dancers (exotic dancers, strippers) at the corner of Patpon and Soi 6. We’re promising you, there’s something for everyone here but since scams are all over the place, expect to pay for all the fun.
If you have time and money, we recommend you to have a drink at the place we like the most: The Sky Bar at Lebua Hotel. It was used in a scene in The Hangover 2 and its scenery is breathtaking.
Make the most of AWA- Key Speakers, Trends, Industry Brands, Networking Events & Parties
But let’s not forget the main reason we’re in Bangkok: the 2018 edition of AWA with its valuable educational resources and its great networking opportunities, all the guest speakers and trends insights that can shape the future of our business.
We can’t wait to arrive there to meet the major players in affiliate marketing, to share the best practices with them and to discuss about this changing landscape and the burning topics of the moment.
